Reduce Unwanted Hair Growth

The hair is every person’s crowning glory. Everyone wants to have beautiful and presentable hair that’s not only for aesthetic purposes, but also for the protection of the scalp and the overall health of the body. However, the head isn’t the only place where hair grows. In fact, the entire body is covered by hair – the entire skin area except for the lips, palms, and soles of the feet. Everywhere else has hair, even if you don’t see it. A lot of people have very thin hair growth on the entire body, with the only concentration on the head, sideburns, eyebrows, eyelashes, pubic area, and armpits. However, some people experience excessive hair growth on parts of the body where there shouldn’t be too much hair, like on the upper lip, chin, chest, and other uncommon hairy body parts.

There are some people who just have a little thicker growth of hair on certain areas. Women, in particular, are very conscious about unwanted hair growth on the upper lip, chin, and armpits. But there are medical conditions like hormonal imbalance that can cause the excessive growth of hair on these areas. There are also medical conditions where hair growth is extremely excessive, also known as hirsutism. This is not a common problem, but it can happen to anyone.

For cases where excessive hair growth is apparent, people use different methods to remove or reduce unwanted hair. One of the easiest and most popular ways to reduce unwanted hair is by shaving. If the area of hair that you will remove is quite big, using a shave is a faster and easier way to do it. Both men and women can use shaves, and there are shaves designed especially for those different genders. There are manual shaves with blades and there are electronic shaves with blades rotating inside a holed cover. Most women use manual shaves because they only use these for their armpits and some for their legs, while men are more inclined to using electric shaves to remove facial hair.

Shaving can reduce unwanted hair easily but not for long. After a few days, hair will grow back again, and in thicker volume and strands. Plucking is a better alternative which can make your hairy areas hairless for a relatively long while. However, it’s painful to perform especially on areas where you will be plucking for the first time, and it can also be very tedious if there’s a lot of hair that you need to remove. It isn’t advisable to pluck if you’re going to pluck a lot of hair. Also, inward hair growth can occur when you pluck, making your hair follicles damaged.

Waxing is a good method of hair removal but it’s extremely painful. But if you get used to it, you can get the hang of waxing every once in a while. Waxing is only expensive, which is its major drawback. A single set of waxing tools can cost you a lot more than a single shave which you can use over and over again. Also, waxing can be very inaccurate if you don’t really know how to do it. If you wax incorrectly, it can make your hair grow in different directions, making shaving more difficult to do.

Other newer methods to reduce unwanted hair are permanent hair removal through laser or heat treatment. These are more expensive but the guarantee a lifetime of hairlessness. If you really want those strands gone from your body, it’s much better to use a permanent method of hair removal. But if it doesn’t fit your budget, manual methods can always work well enough.
