Pediatric Blood Pressure Monitors

Monitoring the blood pressure is an important activity especially if you already have history of high blood. Starting early is a good way of knowing if you have hypertension, particularly if it runs in your family or you have medical characteristics that can contribute to its occurrence such as obesity, high blood cholesterol, and heart problems.

Blood pressure monitors are composed of different tools, each important in creating an accurate reading. The hand cuff is a material wrapped on the arm, which is inflated using an attached air pump. A mercury reader is attached to it which indicates what the pressure of the blood is as it starts pumping, and at what pressure it is unimpeded. Oftentimes, a stethoscope is used to count the heart rate while the blood pressure is being taken in order to make a complete assessment of the heart rate and blood pressure, whether they are at normal levels or not.

Contrary to common knowledge, not only adults get hypertension. Children are also very prone to this disease, and it may cause worse effects on their weak and young bodies than in adults. There are a lot of cases of children having high blood pressure, and it is primarily because of the prevalence of many obese and overweight children who, at their very young age, weigh as much as adults do.

There are also babies who are susceptible to high blood problems. Most of these include premature babies who were born at least six weeks before the assigned date of delivery. Many premature babies die after a few months, but using blood pressure control, the mortality of premature babies can be controlled.

In order to better get an accurate reading of a child’s blood pressure, pediatric blood pressure monitors have been designed exclusively for their use. Some children are afraid of doctors, and they are afraid of the instruments and tools that doctors use to diagnose them like stethoscopes, temperature readers, and blood pressure monitors. Some children think that doctors will hurt them using these foreign instruments, and this is one of the reasons why many children do not want to visit doctors and dentists as well, for that matter.

Pediatric blood pressure monitors are created like children’s video consoles. The LCD display of digital pediatric blood pressure monitors are designed similarly with the appearance of the LCD displays of video games, complete with buttons and everything. The hand cuffs sometimes come in various sizes that no longer need to be inflated manually by a pump, as some children are afraid of this inflating action that tends to tighten on their arms. There are also cuffs which have cute cartoon designs which make them attractive for children, eliminating the fear factor and promoting better acceptance from kids.

It’s important to keep track of your child’s blood pressure every now and then, especially if you have family history of the disease, of your child is overweight or obese at such young age, if your child is diabetic, and if your child has heart problems. It may be fearful for a parent to find out that her child is suffering from an adult’s disease, and he will pretty much have to deal with it for the rest of his life, but it would be worse to find your child in danger because you had no idea that he already had hypertension.

Even if your child does have hypertension, it doesn’t mean that his future has been completely compromised. If he learns the proper management techniques that he should do to be able to prevent the aggravation of the disease, then he might be able to live a close-to-normal life and his hypertension problem will not be a hindrance for him to fulfill his dreams.
