Healthy Grilling Tips

Grilling is one of the best and healthiest ways to prepare a huge variety of food, especially if you use a grilling machine. It allows any fat that’s in the food to run off during cooking, meaning you’re taking in less fat and calories yet you’re still eating delicious food – and best of all, you’re not depriving yourself at all.

Look for non-stick grilling plates and a slanted machine that allows the fat to run off and then you’re good to go. You can also use a simple non-stick griddle pan – just be sure to use a low-calorie oil spray to cook with and drain the fat from the food on some kitchen paper before eating.

What Foods Can I Grill?

You can grill most foods – fresh vegetables, chicken breasts, beef steaks, tuna steaks, turkey breasts – most food that you can cook in a frying pan can be cooked in a grilling machine or in a griddle pan. Slice all vegetables relatively thinly – around 3-4mm and they will cook in around 2-3 minutes. Chicken and turkey take around 13 minutes in a grilling machine and beef steaks take up to ten minutes, depending on how you like your steak.

Quick Grilling Recipes

A lot of the time, the simplest way of preparing food is the tastiest. Here’s a quick grilled curry chicken recipe that takes just minutes to prepare.


  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 200g natural yoghurt
  • 4 tbsp. curry powder
  • Salt and pepper


Mix the yoghurt with the curry powder and some salt and pepper until smooth. Cover the chicken with the mixture and leave to marinate in the fridge for a few hours until you’re ready to eat. Once you’re ready, remove any excess marinade form the chicken and place it on the grilling machine on a medium heat. Cook for around 7 minutes on either side and serve with a salad and some potato wedges.

Steak is one of the tastiest foods that you can prepare in a grilling machine. Try this simple soy steak recipe below.


  • 4 fillet steaks
  • 100ml soy sauce
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp. hot chilli flakes


Finely slice the garlic cloves and mix into the soy sauce along with the chilli flakes. Pour the marinade over the steak and leave to marinade for a few hours. Once you’re ready to cook the steaks, remove any excess marinade and place into a small saucepan. Bring the liquid to the boil and cook for five minutes or so to make a sauce. Place the steaks onto the griddle pan and cook for 3-8 minutes on each side, depending on how rare you like your meat.

Fruit can be easily prepared in a grilling machine or a griddle pan to make a tasty dessert. Try this simple grilled pineapple recipe below.


  • 1 pineapple
  • 3 tbsp. chopped mint
  • 3 tbsp. sugar

Peel and core the pineapple. Slice it into 4mm slices and place onto the grilling machine for 1-2 minutes on each side. Finely chop 3 tbsp. of mint and mix with 3 tbsp. of white sugar. Sprinkle the mixture onto the grilled pineapple to serve.

As you can see, there are so many things you can do with a grilling machine or griddle pan – they’re really one of the best items that you can have in your kitchen. If you have a grill function on your oven, you don’t even need to buy either of those items – you can simply place food onto the grill pan that comes with the oven and cook as normal.
