Get Rid of Kidney Stones

We all know that having excessive substances inside our body can cause different diseases, since some of these substances can turn into other materials, settle in different parts of the body, and other unnatural events that may result to medical problems. Some of these excessive substances may settle in the internal and vital organs, mostly in the form of stones. Kidney stones are some of these very common settling substances.

There are a lot of causes for having kidney stones. In fact, there are several types of kidney stones, but they are all named such because they all settle in the kidneys in the form of solid particles, similar to stones. The major substances that turn into stones and rest in the kidneys are calcium oxalates and uric acid. Calcium oxalate stones are the most common form of kidney stones, affecting 80% of all kidney stone sufferers. 5% are sufferers of uric acid stones, which are developed when there are high levels of uric acid in the urine. The remaining 15% may be from struvites, calcium phosphate, or cystine. Struvites include magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate.

Kidney stones are quite easy to diagnose if an individual undergoes testing procedures like ultrasound, x-ray, blood tests, and urinalyses. However, not all people have these tests, and the only way to know that one has kidney stones is by observing the symptoms associated with the condition. This include an unexplainable pain in the lower back and lower abdomen to the groin, nausea, vomiting, hematuria or blood in the urine, pyuria or pus in the urine, oliguria or infrequent urination due to the blockage of the kidney passages, and smelly urine. These can be quite uncomfortable and disturbing, and in the event that you experience these signs, you should immediately consult a medical professional.

There are some ways that you can do to get rid of kidney stones. One of the most effective ways to eliminate kidney stones is by drinking plenty of water. Since water is the basic constituent of urine, and it helps in dissolving different impurities in water, drinking plenty of water is helpful in dissolving the stones in the kidney, allowing them to gradually reduce in size, pass through the urine, and eventually disappear, but there are many other ways to eliminate kidney stones and you shouldn’t rely on only one method, since other substances that you eat are also factors in reducing and increasing kidney stones.

Avoid purine-rich and oxalate-rich foods, as they are the primary sources of kidney stones. Calcium-rich foods should not be avoided, but calcium carbonate supplements should be stopped. Some oxalate-rich foods include asparagus, berries, chocolate, coffee, tea, wheat bran, and cooked spinach. Salt should also be avoided since it can turn into calcium inside the body.

Take magnesium and vitamin B6 supplements are useful for reducing the size of kidney stones. Drinking herbal teas can be good for the body as well, and help in minimizing the problem. Exercising is also an important part of a daily routine to eliminate the formation of stones in the kidneys.

Self-medication is not good for any disease, so taking over-the-counter medicines should not be tolerated. The best medication that you can take to eliminate kidney stones is orange juice. Fresh orange juice has been proven effective in eliminating kidney stones, but you can also drink lemon juice if you prefer it. Cranberry juice may be good for urinary infections, but it can increase calcium particles in the body.

There are also surgical methods to get rid of kidney stones, like extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) or Ureteroscopic kidney stone removal. These are invasive methods that should always be left for last, as there are a lot of side effects that can be experienced post-operation, and the cost of these procedures is not a small concern.

If you happen to have kidney stones, or if you experience the symptoms associated with the disease, better consult a medical professional immediately.
